The beginnings in the Sauerland region (from 1906)
Around the turn of the century (1900), the demand for organized bureaucracy rose rapidly. Factories, insurance companies, and authorities required flexible, durable metal systems to securely bundle growing piles of paper.
1906 – The Foundation: Carl Langenscheidt and Albert Moog founded the company in 1906 in nearby Lüdenscheid. Following the early death of Albert Moog in 1907, Carl Langenscheidt continued to run the business on his own responsibility.
1909 – The Kierspe-Rönsahl Location: To create space for the rapidly expanding production, the company relocated to Kierspe-Rönsahl in 1909 – the exact location where we still manufacture today.
The Sauerland region offered ideal conditions: abundant water power, a highly developed wire drawing and cold rolling industry, as well as experienced toolmakers. Moog & Langenscheidt specialized early on in extremely precise stamping and forming technology, which was essential for delicate, resilient office systems.
From lever arch to filing mechanisms: Evolution in office organization
While the large lever arch mechanism was primarily developed for heavy filing binders, demand simultaneously grew for sleeker systems: filing mechanisms for flat files, presentation folders, and brochures.
As a leading manufacturer for ring binder accessories, Moog & Langenscheidt evolved over the decades into a sought-after specialist for these delicate components. The manufacturing challenge was high: metal prongs had to be flexible enough to be bent hundreds of times without breaking – yet rigid enough to hold the filed paper firmly together.
Through in-house toolmaking and continuous optimization of metal quality (including brass and refined surfaces), the company set industry-wide standards in durability and resilience early on.
Modernization surges and technological milestones
The corporate history of Moog & Langenscheidt is a chronicle of continuous adaptation to state-of-the-art production methods. Following the entry of Ernst Langenscheidt (1920) and later his daughter Edith (1963), production changed fundamentally:
1982 – The arrival of automatic stamping presses: Manual and semi-automatic press feeding was replaced by state-of-the-art automatic stamping presses. This enabled Moog & Langenscheidt to produce binder accessories and filing mechanisms in true mass production with consistently exact precision for the first time.
1995 – Precision through erosion technology: The deployment of in-house EDM machines in toolmaking made it possible to manufacture extremely complex stamping tools in-house. Functional parts such as compressor bars, filing prongs, or combined pendulum fittings henceforth interlocked even more seamlessly.
Innovative binder accessories today: From metal strip to system component
Today, the traditional family business is managed in the fourth generation by Mirko Langenscheidt. Classic filing mechanisms have successfully made the leap into modern, automated assembly solutions. Over the course of the company history, classic filing mechanisms have evolved enormously into modern assembly solutions:
Self-adhesive mechanisms: Instead of laboriously mounting the mechanism into cardboard folders, the company developed self-adhesive filing mechanisms with pull-off backing, enabling tool-free assembly in no time.
Filing prongs & compressor bars: Classic binding for integration into flat files and folders naturally remains one of our core products. Flexible metal prongs and sturdy filing strips ensure secure and permanent binding of documents.
Further accessory parts for binders and folders, such as elastic cords, suspension rails, and pendulum fittings, are among our special manufacturing strengths.
In addition, we supply classic binder accessories such as lever arch mechanisms, ring binder mechanisms, matching compressors, and corner protectors. But that is by far not all: Our shop assortment comprises over 20,000 items. Custom made-to-order products are also easily possible and manufactured directly to your specifications.
